LADE runup for the election day

In line with its objective to enhance participation, democracy and good governance FES has been supporting LADE’s work since 2009. Consequently, in 2018 the FES supported LADE to conduct trainings for 1300 Observers from all the Lebanese regions in order enable them to monitor the Election Day and issue an overall monitoring report that evaluates the whole electoral process. These trainings were divided into 3 phases where every observer had to attend three trainings (Workshop 1, 2 and a refresher before the E-day) in order to be fully equipped to monitor.

More than 1500 observers conducted the first training, out of which LADE selected its 1300 persons which were deployed all over the country on E-day. After 9 years of not having parliamentary elections in Lebanon, the 2018 parliamentary elections are an important step to rebuild the state institutions and bring back the electoral process towards its normal tracks. This will be hopefully achieved by ensuring periodic elections as per the international conventions of human rights and political human rights and than by ensuring the quality of these elections, that is to have democratic elections as per the Lebanese electoral framework and the international standard for democratic elections.

FES is confidient that by supporting LADE’s observation efforts an independent and professional assessment of these elections by the Lebanese people can be ensured contributing to more democratic Elections in the future.
